IMS BEARING UPGRADES
The M96 powerplant boasts a delightful symphony of sound, coupled with robust power and torque characteristics, yet it grapples with a few known challenges. Among these, the Intermediate Shaft (IMS) Bearing stands out as a well-documented concern.
This flat-six naturally aspirated engine, under engine codes M96.01-M96.05 and M97.01, finds its home in both the 996 and the first generation of the 997. It also finds a place in the 986 Boxster, early 987 Boxster models up to 2006, and a scant few early production 987 Caymans have been outfitted with this M96 engine.
